We are joining the weekly banner drop for Palestine on the West 5th bridge over the Linc (Lincoln Alexander Parkway).
Last week, the Trudeau government shamefully abstained on the UN General Assembly resolution to make Palestine the 194th member state of the United Nations. The non-binding motion passed overwhelmingly anyhow and puts increased pressure on the USA NOT to use its veto when the vote takes place next at the UN Security Security Council, where the vote would be binding.
The Trudeau government has succeeded in isolating Canada further and further from the pro-Palestinian consensus within the international community by voting consistently against a slate of resolutions designed to bring peace to Israel/Palestine, including stopping the Israeli genocide in Gaza, ending the occupation, removing illegal settlements in the West Bank and Golan Heights, allowing the return of Palestinian refugees, guaranteeing the sanctity of the Al Aqsa Mosque, and many other issues. A "yes" vote on full statehood for Palestine would have not cost Canada a penny, but would have signalled a change of heart on the part of the Canadian government. Regrettably, Trudeau continues to refuse to support South Africa's application to the International Court of Justice and tacitly supports Israel's genocide in Gaza through a whole slew of political arrangements with the Israeli apartheid regime.
We say: “Trudeau, Support Palestine!”
See you Sunday! Please bring a Palestinian flag, if you have one.
