Dangerous U.S. Escalation Threatens Humanity
Action Now is Needed!

As we write this message, Friday night after dark, President Trump’s administration has announced multiple cruise missile strikes on sovereign Syrian territory.

The U.S. has no legal right whatsoever to strike anywhere within Syria.

In this statement released Wednesday, a group of international law experts warn that a U.S. military strike on Syria would be illegal if not in self-defense or with U.N. Security Council authorization.

Or as Montreal publisher and radio host Robin Philpot puts it,

Statement by Robin Philpot, Friday, April 13, 2018.

The so-called “chemical weapons” attack, that allegedly justifies this strike, is unverified. This and other claims have been extensively challenged by citizen journalists on Twitter and Facebook, including Eva Bartlett, Vanessa Beeley, Sharmine Narwani, and others. Journalists such as Max Blumenthal and Rania Khalek have also debunked corporate media lies about Syria, the “White Helmets,” and other sources from which we receive “information.” The sheer amount of critical research by the aforementioned journalists on the White Helmets and previous ‘WMD’ scares in Syria cast extreme doubt on the latest ‘chemical’ allegations. In any event, chemical weapons use does not provide a legal pretext for U.S. missiles.

Trump’s actions could easily lead to World War 3 – a nuclear war threatening everybody.

There are still things we can do, while we have time. Please contact your MP, and inform them of your concern about the direction our foreign policy is heading in.

1) Contact your member of parliament to express your displeasure with the Trudeau government’s support of the US administration’s push for a direct military intervention in Syria. Follow Jagmeet Singh’s advice in demanding an investigation and a political settlement in Syria: https://twitter.com/theJagmeetSingh/status/983154543343972352

Find your MPs info: http://www.ourcommons.ca/parliamentarians/en/constituencies/FindMP

2) Introduce a “Hands Off Syria” resolution in your trade union, professional association, place of worship, school council. We can help you write the resolution.

3) Join any rallies, demonstration, and informational pickets against war in Syria.

Here are some talking points about the role of Canadian governments in Syria, for when talking with politicians or community organizations:

  • Under Harper, Canada helped the USA organize the so-called “Friends of Syria: Group of Countries (FSG) which supported the proxy war for regime change in Syria since 2012, using terrorist mercenaries. Harper’s government chaired the FSG’s Sanctions Sub-Cttee which levelled brutal economic sanctions by FSG members on Syria, turning millions into refugees. Harper’s government also met with leaders of the armed Syrian opposition and gave it funding. Under Harper, Canada joined the US-Coalition to fight ISIS and lent it CF-18 fight jets illegally to overfly and bomb targets in Syria.

  • Under Trudeau, the fighter jets came home and were replaced with refuelling, transport and reconnaissance aircraft. The size of the contingent of “trainers” for the Kurdish separatist state in Northern Iraq was increased, though Canada is on record supporting the territorial integrity of Iraq. In April 2017, Trudeau initially called for an investigation of the alleged chemical weapons attack on Khan Sheikoun, Syria. Two days later, he flip-flopped and unconditionally supported Trump’s attack on Shayrat Air Base in Syria, without the benefit of any investigation at all.

  • The Coalition calls for Canada to remove all of its military assets and troops remaining in Syria and to push instead for an international inquiry into the alleged chemical weapons incident in Eastern Ghouta. We believe that only the Syrian people have the right to determine their own future. To that end, the government of Canada should end its illegal economic sanctions against Syria, re-establish diplomatic ties with the government in Damascus, and contribute to the reconstruction of Syria so that the millions of refugees and displaced persons can return to their homes in that once-beautiful country which successive Canadian governments have helped to destroy.

The Russian government has publicly warned the USA and its allies on three separate occasions over the past month that, if Russian personnel in Syria were affected by any US strike, it would destroy the platform from which the attack was launched.

This is a very dangerous situation indeed!

The United National Anti-War Coalition in the USA has already called for demonstrations against any US attack on Syria this weekend, April 14-15. Other US groups and political figures have been busy mobilizing their members to call their elected officials in Washington to demand a scaling down of tensions. In the UK, multiple demonstrations have been called for this weekend against war with Russia and Syria.

The U.S. and its proxies are losing in their attempt to change the government in Syria. Some missile strikes won’t change the final result. But they can lead to a dangerous escalation with Russia.
