PROTEST THE NEGEV DINNER!

While the genocidal Israeli regime prevents food, water, medicines, fuel, and electricity from entering Gaza, causing Palestinian children to die of starvation and disease, its agents in Canada, namely the Jewish National Fund of Canada and the Magen Israel Fund, plan a $250-a-plate dinner at LIUNA Station in Hamilton, for which the guests will receive a tax receipt (meaning that ALL Canadians are subsidizing this heinous event.) Blockading the necessities of life for Gazans is in direct violation of the 4th Geneva Convention [1949] on the treatment of populations living under occupation, to which Canada is a High Consenting Party.
After decades of protest and legal action, the Canada Revenue Agency removed the charitable status of the Jewish National Fund, because it was funding illegal Israeli settlements on the West Bank and in the Syrian Golan Heights, also in contravention of international law. The JNF then flaunted this CRA ruling by partnering with the Magen Israel Fund in order to continue the practice of obtaining tax receipts for rich diners, who are directly enabling genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing on the West Bank. We call for the CRA to remove the charitable status of the Magen Israel Fund!
LIUNA Station is associated with the Labourer’s International Union of Canada, which maintains close ties to the Liberal Party of Canada and, without the permission of the Hamilton and District Labour Council, invited Justin Trudeau to the Labour Day Parade during the election campaign of 2019, at which time LIUNA was prevented by the rank and file of other unions from continuing in the parade.
One of the keynote speakers at the Negev Dinner is Victoria Mancinelli, LIUNA’s Public Relations Director, “a proud Zionist” (according to the Negev Dinner organizers), daughter of LIUNA’s Canadian director, and a regular advocate of the apartheid Israeli regime.
At a time when the Carney government of Canada is enabling the genocide in Gaza by failing to provide a robust, two-way, arms embargo on Israel and by failing to take any measures to punish or isolate Israel for its crimes in Palestine, we call on Hamiltonians to attend the informational picket at LIUNA Station to demonstrate to the politicians and business leaders (who regularly attend these functions) that we are furious about their continuing support for genocide.
