Ken Stone’s letter in the Spec today regarding the accidental downing of Ukrainian flight 752 over Tehran one year ago.
Condemn Trump not Iran
The Hamilton Spectator 20 Jan 2021
While it’s regrettable so many lives were accidentally lost over Tehran a year ago, The Spec should recall tweets by Michael McCain, CEO of Maple Leaf Foods: “I am very angry … A MLF colleague of mine lost his wife and family this week to a needless, irresponsible series of events in Iran … A narcissist in Washington tears world accomplishments apart; destabilizes region … tensions escalated to feverish pitch … collateral damage of this irresponsible, dangerous, ill-conceived behaviour 63 Canadians needlessly lost their lives in the crossfire, including the family of one of my MLF colleagues (his wife + 11 year old son)! We are mourning and I am livid.”
The Spec continuously supports Trudeau’s hidden agenda of undermining Iran’s sovereignty by challenging Iran’s international legal obligation to lead the investigation on its own territory and by questioning Iran’s motives in acknowledging responsibility and offering a settlement to victims’ families. Paying Ralph Goodale big bucks to meddle in Iran’s internal affairs is unfortunately part of Trudeau’s end game of regime change in Tehran.
Additionally, the Spec also failed to report that Iran charged a number of military officials for negligence (1) and invited Ukrainian officials to take part in the investigation.
I believe your editorials on this subject should focus on condemning, as did Michael McCain, the ultimate cause of the disaster: Trump’s brazen (and uncensored) tweet of his assassination of General Soleimani in Baghdad while he was on an official mission of peace at the invitation of the prime minister of Iraq.
